This Sleeping Venus Slider by Carina Hardy draws on a pivotal shift in Western art, presenting the female body not as a distant religious symbol but as self-aware, sensual and directly engaged with the viewer. The reclining Venus is rendered in a deliberately provocative pose, crowned by a single white topaz and designed to slide freely along the chain. Reversibility and movement make the figure feel active rather than fixed, while the long art-historical reference gives the piece conceptual depth. It is characteristic Carina Hardy: beautiful, challenging and bodily, inviting both touch and thought while refusing to reduce femininity to passive ornament.
Carina Hardy has lived between Bali and New York City her entire life. Growing up in a family of jewelers, she was encouraged to push creative limits and trust hand craftsmanship. A designer and artist, Carina roots her practice in reverence for the strength and softness of women. Carina has worked in many mediums, including plaster, inflatables, ice and metal. Together with her lover Tavish, they established Carina Hardy in 2024.
