This Cultured Freshwater Pearl and Amethyst Beaded Necklace 'Sea Catch in Purple' by Matta Nandrakwang is a beautiful and elegant strand of naturally white pearls. The artisan alternates cultured freshwater pearls alongside petite amethyst gemstones to create the necklace, while a rose-shaped sterling silver box clasp adds an extra touch of loveliness.
Matta Nandrakwang, born in Chiang Rai near the Myanmar border, grew up amidst the vibrant cultures of Thailand’s northern tribes. From childhood, she was enchanted by the adornments of hill tribe women, their silver coins, beads, and ornaments sparking a lifelong fascination with jewelry. Her first blue star sapphire ring ignited a passion that only grew stronger. After training as a nurse and traveling abroad, Matta realized her true calling was in gemstones. She pursued formal studies in gemology and jewelry design, supplementing her education with self-taught bead-making. Today, she runs her own studio, where she shares her love of gems and the art of jewelry with visitors. Inspired by both heritage and personal style, her creations celebrate the natural beauty of gemstones and the cultural richness of her homeland. For Matta, jewelry is both adornment and storytelling, carrying history, elegance, and joy.
Handcrafted from cultured freshwater pearl, amethyst, and 925 sterling silver with a high polish finish, this necklace measures 17.3 inches in length and closes with a box clasp.
