This Beaded Tourmaline and Pearl Necklace 'Ivory Chrysanthemum' by Matta Nandrakwang is a beautiful necklace. Clustered together, cultured pearls form an ivory chrysanthemum. The artisan displays the lustrous gems on a necklace of tourmaline beads, showcasing the gem's wide range of colors. The piece is a beautiful blend of artistry and tradition.
Matta Nandrakwang, born in Chiang Rai near the Myanmar border, grew up amidst the vibrant cultures of Thailand’s northern tribes. From childhood, she was enchanted by the adornments of hill tribe women, their silver coins, beads, and ornaments sparking a lifelong fascination with jewelry. Her first blue star sapphire ring ignited a passion that only grew stronger. After training as a nurse and traveling abroad, Matta realized her true calling was in gemstones. She pursued formal studies in gemology and jewelry design, supplementing her education with self-taught bead-making. Today, she runs her own studio, where she shares her love of gems and the art of jewelry with visitors. Inspired by both heritage and personal style, her creations celebrate the natural beauty of gemstones and the cultural richness of her homeland. For Matta, jewelry is both adornment and storytelling, carrying history, elegance, and joy.
Handcrafted from cultured freshwater pearls, tourmaline, and .950 silver, this necklace measures 18 inches in length with a 0.6-inch diameter pendant and closes with a spring ring clasp.
