This Wide Natural Fiber Cuff Bracelet 'The Way of the Cross' by Independent Artisans is a dramatic and culturally significant accessory. Created by the artisans of the Zenú Community in northwest Colombia, this cuff bracelet is meticulously woven from caña flecha fiber, a native neotropical grass. The geometric patterns, or pintas, carry symbolic meaning, representing ancestral narratives. Each piece honors their land, their stories, and their identity, inviting wearers to carry a piece of Colombia's living tradition.
For centuries, the Zenú people of Colombia have cultivated and woven caña flecha, a native cane fiber integral to their culture and identity. Once used in fishing and building, the fiber evolved into the foundation of the iconic sombrero vueltiao, as well as baskets, bags, and bracelets. Crafting these pieces is a community-wide effort: the cane is dried, split into uniform strands, dyed with natural pigments, and woven into intricate braids, sometimes containing up to twenty-eight fibers. The geometric pintas that adorn each piece carry symbolic meaning, representing clans, plants, animals, and ancestral narratives. Today, the Zenú artisans pass down their knowledge through local schools, blending oral history with traditional techniques to preserve their cultural heritage. Every design honors their land, their stories, and their identity, inviting wearers to carry a piece of Colombia’s living tradition.
Handcrafted from caña flecha fiber, PVC, and polyester, this cuff bracelet measures 7 inches L (end to end) x 2 inches W.
