This White Recycled Glass Beaded Necklace from Ghana Jewelry 'African Glamour' by Independent Artisans is a vibrant celebration of Ghanaian creativity and sustainability. Designed by Ivy Mowtey, a hardworking and sociable artisan, this necklace is made from beads crafted from recycled glass, promoting an eco-friendly attitude. The long white beads, along with the round and disc-shaped beads, are divided by multiple strands of petite ones, bringing the glamor of Africa to the wearer and symbolizing resilience.
Born in Ghana’s Volta region in 1982, Ivy Mowtey creates jewelry rooted in African beadwork traditions. Hardworking and sociable, she found her artistic voice by reprocessing recycled plastic bottle caps into wearable art, blending heritage with sustainability. Trained first by her mother and later through an arts and crafts institute, she refined her skills while studying fashion trends and collaborating with fellow artisans. Starting her venture was not easy—she even sold porridge to fund her materials—but her determination pushed her forward. Festivals, cultural traditions, and the fashion world continue to inspire her vibrant designs. Today Ivy hopes to expand her work by training others, offering women in her community the skills to build sustainable livelihoods. For Ivy, each necklace or bracelet is both a celebration of Ghanaian creativity and a symbol of resilience.
Handcrafted from recycled glass beads, nylon cord, and a brass clasp, this necklace measures 24.5 inches in length and closes with an S-hook or hook clasp.
