This 'Green Mayan Cross' green jade pendant necklace by Independent Artisans is an elegant and sacred accessory. Designed by the Jimenez family, this sterling silver necklace features a cross that is "carved from a single stone of light green jade." Jade is an "extremely important stone in Maya culture, representative of luck and protection." This piece is a way to express their Christian faith and work with sustainable materials.
Pedro and Esperanza, a husband-and-wife team from Guatemala, built their lives around silver and jade despite having no background in jewelry and coming from farming families. Their journey began in their teens, when Pedro was offered work in a silversmith’s workshop and quickly embraced the craft. After years of learning, the couple set out on their own, enduring financial hardship but remaining committed to their vision. Today, their family workshop has grown into a true collaboration: their son Luis Estuardo contributes innovative designs, Maribel manages sales, and Saira oversees finances while completing her degree in business administration. The family works exclusively with Guatemalan jade and recycled silver refined into .925 sterling, combining artistry with sustainability. Each piece reflects not only heritage and creativity but also the resilience of a family determined to transform challenges into lasting beauty.
Handcrafted in 925 sterling silver with natural jade, this necklace has a high-polish finish and spring ring clasp, and measures 18 inches in length.
