This 'Twin Serpents' necklace by Independent Artisans is a novel and captivating piece inspired by nature and Balinese cultural artistry. Designed by Yuniati, the pendant features two sinuous sterling silver serpents intertwining to protect a sleek, oval black onyx. The contrast between the snakes' intricate scales and the smooth, dark gem is striking and beautiful. The pendant is worn on a braided black leather cord, offering a unique and versatile accessory that honors tradition while embracing modern appeal.
Balinese designer Yuniati married into a family of silversmiths in Celuk, a village famed for its gold and silver traditions. Encouraged by her husband and their artisan friends, she gradually learned the craft, beginning with simple necklaces and bracelets that soon caught the attention of international clients. Inspired by the shapes of plants, animals, and Bali’s cultural artistry, she creates jewelry that reflects both nature’s beauty and her island’s heritage. Today, Yuniati works alongside skilled silversmiths to produce designs in sterling silver that balance traditional motifs with modern appeal. For her, jewelry-making is more than a livelihood—it is a way to carry forward her ancestors’ legacy while offering unique expressions of Balinese art to the world. Each piece she creates is a testament to dedication, cultural pride, and creative passion.
Handcrafted from 925 sterling silver, natural onyx, and leather, this necklace features a combination finish and a hook clasp. It measures 18.5 inches in length and the pendant measures 3.5 inches in length by 1.6 inches in width.
