These 'Moringa Leaves in Blue' Sterling Silver and Blue Topaz Dangle Earrings by Independent Artisans are inspired by the hearty, drought-resistant moringa plant. Indonesian artisans hand craft the earrings from a faceted blue topaz stone and looped sterling silver embellishments. They have a high polish finish. The color may vary slightly.
In the early 2000s, a business trip to East Java introduced this designer to a fading tradition: local silver workshops that had once thrived but were now closing. Determined to revive the craft, she partnered with Ibu Indun, a widowed silversmith, to restore an old workshop. Together with her sister and extended family members, they rebuilt production using traditional tools and techniques while blending modern design elements. She oversees design, marketing, and office work, while Ibu Indun leads the craftsmanship. Their collections combine silver’s timeless beauty with pearls and gemstones sourced from Bali, where partner artisans assist in gem-setting and finishing. Though the journey began with door-to-door sales, government sponsorships soon opened doors to national and international exhibitions. Today, the workshop sustains families in East Java, with each design celebrating resilience, collaboration, and the enduring soul of silver jewelry.
Handcrafted in Indonesia, these hook earrings are made from .925 sterling silver and blue topaz with a high polish finish. The total weight is 0.11 oz. Each earring measures 2 inches L x 0.7 inches W x 0.2 inches D.
