This Red and White Glass Beaded Woven Bracelet with Sliding Knot 'Unity in Red' by Independent Artisans is a bracelet that symbolizes support and unity. Handwoven with fine red and white glass beads by the Wakami cooperative in Guatemala, the bracelet is a simple yet powerful accessory. The sliding knot allows for an adjustable length, and the piece represents the spirit of collaboration and the belief that collective dreams are unstoppable.
María Pacheco is a Guatemalan entrepreneur whose work bridges science, community, and design. Trained as a biologist, she later studied agriculture in New York before returning home with a vision to transform cycles of poverty into circles of prosperity. After witnessing firsthand the struggles of families in refugee camps and rural villages, she founded Wakami, named after the Kaqchikel Maya word for “it already is.” Wakami connects rural artisans, most of them women, with global markets, creating income opportunities that improve nutrition, education, and stability for more than 500 families. At its heart, Wakami is both a design brand and a social system, producing handmade jewelry that symbolizes dreams, hope, and unity. Each piece carries the spirit of collaboration and the belief that individual dreams are powerful, but collective dreams are unstoppable, offering wearers a meaningful connection to purpose and possibility.
Handcrafted from glass beads, polyester cord, and zamac, this bracelet measures 5.5 inches min L to 6.5 inches max L and has a sliding knot.
