Raised in the communal village of Abiriw, where the Odwira harvest festival filled each September with color and music, this Ghanaian artisan grew up surrounded by tradition and adornment. Though her mother passed when she was a toddler, she was lovingly raised by her father and adoptive mother, and later pursued studies in textiles and business. A single mother of two, she first turned to sewing to support her daughters, then discovered the power of accessories to complete her designs. She learned bead-making from a friend and began crafting with natural stones such as bauxite and soapstone, sourced from carvers in Ghana’s eastern region. Since 2007, she has built a small workshop where apprentices and artisans work alongside her. Her daughters often sit with her, stringing beads into playful patterns, ensuring the next generation inherits both the skill and joy of this enduring craft.
