These Faceted Oval Garnet Drop Earrings ‘Temple Crown’ by Independent Artisans evoke the grandeur of Balinese temples with swirling silver motifs. Two faceted garnets radiate rich red tones, symbolizing love and devotion, while the intricate silverwork pays homage to cultural artistry. A design of both strength and beauty, these earrings celebrate heritage in wearable form.
Born in Bali in 1975, Made Sugi was raised in a community where silversmithing thrives. Inspired by her surroundings, she learned the craft after helping in her husband’s workshop, gradually moving from cleaning and shaping silver to designing her own pieces. Together, they now lead a workshop of 15 artisans who use traditional tools to create intricate designs in silver, gemstones, and pearls. Her jewelry often features classic Balinese motifs such as jawan (silver bubbles) and bun (swirls), patterns that require great precision and skill. Despite personal challenges, including an injury to her hand, Made lives by the motto “never give up.” Her creations embody Balinese culture and artistry, offering jewelry that is both meaningful and distinctive. Through her work, she hopes to keep the silversmithing tradition alive for future generations.
