María del Milagro Cascante Carvajal, born in Alajuela, Costa Rica, first trained in cabinetmaking, developing a lifelong love for working with wood. After years in education, health challenges led her to return to her first passion, creating furniture and restoring antiques. Saddened by the waste of leftover wood, she began transforming small pieces into pendants, discovering a new form of artistry that combines sustainability with creativity. Supported by her husband and three sons, she found joy in crafting jewelry that honors both nature and tradition. Following her husband’s sudden passing in 2019, María drew strength from her work, channeling her dedication into building a future for her family. Each piece she creates is handcrafted with care, love, and respect for the environment, turning what was once discarded into meaningful art. Her designs embody resilience, heritage, and the enduring warmth of Costa Rican craft.
Handcrafted from estoraque wood and cotton cord, this necklace has a sliding knot closure. The pendant measures 1.7 inches H x 1.3 inches W x 0.2 inches D. The adjustable cord is 14 to 28 inches long and 1 mm wide. The piece weighs 0.26 oz. Please note that the wood grain and color may vary slightly. Avoid contact with water. Made in Costa Rica.
