These Cultured Freshwater Pearl and Sterling Silver Earrings 'White Altar' by Wayan Neri and her husband are intricate earrings with button-shaped freshwater pearls on a square sterling silver base, decorated with floral motifs and subtle 18k gold accents. The artisan and her husband run a small workshop, and for her, the essence of silverwork lies in transforming her husband’s designs into tangible works of art, rich with cultural meaning.
Born in Pengosekan in 1981, this Balinese artisan grew up in a farming family and began working at the age of ten to support her education. Early experiences in wood carving eventually led her to train under a master silversmith during high school, where she discovered her calling. Today, she and her husband run a small workshop, crafting jewelry that blends traditional Balinese motifs with modern aesthetics. Each piece is shaped with manual tools—torches, hammers, and pliers—reflecting dedication and skill. For her, the essence of silverwork lies in transforming her husband’s designs into tangible works of art, rich with cultural meaning. Despite challenges, she remains committed to honesty, resilience, and creativity. Her jewelry embodies the artistry of Bali while carrying forward a tradition deeply rooted in both family and community.
Handcrafted in 925 sterling silver, 18 karat gold plate, and cultured freshwater pearls with a combination finish, these lever-back earrings weigh 0.21 oz. They measure 1.3 inches L x 0.6 inches W x 0.4 inches D.
