This 'Black Karen' by Independent Artisans is a unique bracelet with a soft sheen of high-quality Thai silver. Presented by Pakaon Sojintarit, nugget-like beads of 950 silver in graduated sizes punctuate five rows of braided black cords. The bracelet is crafted by Karen hill tribe artisans, and it closes with a hook clasp.
Born in 1991, Pakaon Sojintarit, known affectionately as Little, grew up in Chiang Mai in a family deeply connected to the traditions of silver jewelry. Her parents first encountered the artistry of hill tribe silversmiths decades ago, and their admiration for the purity and symbolism of this craft evolved into a family enterprise. From a young age, Little accompanied her mother to hill tribe villages, observing artisans transform raw silver into jewelry of over 95 percent purity using only simple tools. After studies in hospitality and international experience in the United States and China, she chose to return to her roots, combining her global outlook with her heritage. Today, she oversees a workshop that collaborates with more than 300 silversmiths, the majority of them women, providing stable livelihoods and preserving Karen hill tribe traditions. Her vision is to elevate hill tribe silver into a symbol of Chiang Mai’s cultural identity worldwide.
This bracelet is crafted from polyester waxed cord and 950 silver with a high-polish finish. It features an S-hook or hook clasp and measures 7.8 inches L x 1.1 inches W.
