These 'Sylvan Puissance' by Independent Artisans are a powerful and minimalist pair of dangle earrings that evoke the spirit of the forest. Carved by Mexican artisan Martha Vargas, these earrings feature bocote wood obelisks accented with sterling silver ornaments. The combination of natural, earthy wood and polished, modern silver creates a captivating juxtaposition. Each piece is a tribute to the power of nature and the artistry of traditional craftsmanship.
Hailing from Michoacán, this artisan was inspired by the region’s master craftsmen in silver, wood, and other materials. Trained at the School of Fine Arts, she later dedicated herself to working with indigenous communities in Michoacán, Zacatecas, and Morelos, helping to recover traditional techniques and provide sustainable livelihoods. Her jewelry incorporates silver and wood, often sourced as recycled materials, and crafted with durability and authenticity in mind. Despite personal challenges, including health struggles, she has continued to design, produce, and teach with resilience and purpose. Her greatest fulfillment comes from supporting artisans in rural areas, guiding them to work collaboratively and develop lasting skills. Each of her pieces reflects both cultural preservation and creative innovation, ensuring that Mexico’s artisanal heritage continues to thrive.
These earrings are handcrafted from bocote wood and 925 sterling silver with a high-polish finish. They feature post earrings and measure 1.6 inches long by 0.2 inches wide.
