These African Handmade Eco Friendly Wood Bead Earrings 'Peace' are a naturally chic and meaningful piece by Elizabeth Alorchie-Apetor. The dangle earrings are handcrafted from sese wood beads that reveal colorful geometric patterns. They are flanked by globes of recycled plastic, making them an eco-friendly accessory. The design is named 'Fafa,' which means 'peace' in the Ewe language, reflecting her mission to empower others through her craft.
Elizabeth, a jewelry designer from Accra, discovered her passion for beads as a child, inspired by her mother’s dedication to traditional threading. By the age of nine she was already stringing her own strands, a pastime she cherished alongside her studies. After twenty-one years as a civil servant, she left her career to dedicate herself fully to jewelry, guided by faith and a desire to spend more time with her family. With only a modest starting capital, she built her beaded jewelry venture into a thriving craft, working with materials such as glass, wood, clay, coconut shell, stone, recycled plastic, and metals. Beyond her own creations, she trains apprentices, including women with physical challenges, empowering them to earn independently. Today, Elizabeth continues to grow her practice, blending heritage and innovation while preparing the next generation of her family to carry her artistry forward.
Handcrafted in Ghana, these earrings are made from sese wood and recycled plastic with brass hooks. They measure 2 inches L x 0.5 inches W and secure with hook clasps.
