Peruvian-American designer Zaida Lanning was born in Sacramento and raised in Peru, where her childhood was shaped by archaeological field assignments alongside her mother and grandmother. Surrounded by history and Peruvian artistry, she developed an early love of craft, working with knitting, pottery, and recycled materials before discovering the allure of silver. Fascinated by its plasticity and brilliance, Zaida pursued jewelry-making through training workshops and further study in Cajamarca, eventually dedicating herself full-time to the art in 2006 after a long career as a librarian. Today, she works with fine Peruvian silver, often combined with colorful materials to create pieces that carry both cultural depth and contemporary design. Inspired by nature, everyday life, and even dreams, she leads a workshop where she mentors young artisans in meticulous craftsmanship. Each creation reflects Zaida’s passion for preserving tradition while exploring new forms, offering jewelry that is vibrant, personal, and enduring.
