Ila Suleyman, born in Bawku, Ghana, carries forward a family legacy of leather and wood artistry that spans more than a century. Taught by his grandfather from a young age, he mastered the preparation of natural leather and the creation of traditional accessories, later blending these skills with modern design to appeal to contemporary audiences. Today, Ila leads a workshop with his childhood friend Deri and a small team of artisans, crafting jewelry and accessories from leather, wood, and recycled materials. His work draws deeply from Ghana’s cultural heritage while incorporating fresh styles and colors inspired by global fashion. Beyond his artistry, he is dedicated to community development, training physically challenged artisans and supporting education for underprivileged youth. Each piece embodies his vision of tradition reimagined for the modern world.
