Cristina Hernández, a proud Honduran artisan, has dedicated her career to preserving and reimagining the country’s weaving traditions. After studying fine arts and entrepreneurship abroad, she coordinated an export project for Honduran handicrafts, an experience that deepened her commitment to artisans living in marginalized communities. When the program ended, she and her mother continued the mission, determined to provide opportunities and fair prices for weavers. Recognizing the need for innovation, Cristina introduced new designs that retained traditional essence while ensuring artisans could create smaller, faster pieces like jewelry, offering both fair compensation and flexibility for women managing homes and children. Once part of a workforce of over 1,000, only a few dozen weavers remain today. Cristina’s work is not only about sustaining craft but also about restoring livelihoods. Each piece carries the love, resilience, and cultural legacy of Honduras’ talented women artisans.
