This Wood and Sterling Silver Beaded Stretch Necklace 'Spiral Bangle' by Chiang Mai artisan Ralyon Hengwatanakul is a beautiful piece that bridges the gap between nature and modern art. The stretch necklace is composed of hand-carved mai maka wood beads that display beautiful, natural colors and grains. The central accent is a sterling silver spiral-patterned bangle that wraps around one of the beads, creating a striking contrast and an elegant focal point. This necklace is a testament to Ralyon's innovative vision and his pride in blending traditional Thai artistry with modern style.
Chiang Mai artisan Ralyon Hengwatanakul grew up in a family of silk merchants but found his own artistic path through jewelry. Educated in England as a computer engineer, he returned to Thailand and married fellow artisan Jaifah Aksornsri. Inspired by his wife’s family’s silver and woodworking traditions, he began experimenting with new forms that combined natural woods such as mai maka with sterling silver. The result is a contemporary collection that bridges carpentry and silversmithing, appealing to both younger and older generations. Working with local craftsmen near his village, Ralyon takes pride in blending Thai heritage with modern style. Together with his wife and two children, he hopes to expand their online presence, ensuring traditional Thai artistry thrives in a digital age while captivating audiences around the world.
Handcrafted in Thailand from mai maka wood and 925 sterling silver, this necklace measures 19 inches long by 15 mm wide and features a screw-barrel clasp.
