The Ethiopian Shield Ring With White Sapphires by Sandrine B. draws its architecture from an Ethiopian shield, translating vertical granulation and defensive form into an oxidized silver statement ring. Eighteen 2 mm white sapphires are held by selected granules that function as prongs, allowing the stones to become part of the shield’s texture rather than sitting above it conventionally. The darkened finish recalls aged steel and heightens the relief of the carved surface. Two column-like sections of the shank support the substantial bezel, while a carved detail beneath mirrors the top to create visual balance. The result is richly symbolic, tactile and unmistakably sculptural.
