Van Der Hout Jewelry is a passionate, female-driven business in Toronto founded by Karen Van Der Hout. Born into the world of diamonds, Karen’s parents immigrated from Iran and rebuilt their lives in New York City’s diamond industry. Karen's childhood in the diamond district shaped her deep understanding of jewelry making. At just 14, she began working alongside family members, laying the foundation for a lifelong passion.
Despite a successful career in fashion, Karen always felt a magnetic pull towards jewelry. Armed with unparalleled knowledge and a profound love for the craft, Karen decided to embark on a new chapter. Balancing a career, motherhood, and the anticipation of a third child, she founded her brand, Van Der Hout Jewelry. Moving to Toronto, Karen faced challenges searching for dealers, gold casters, goldsmiths and suppliers. Despite her strong vision and experience, many doubted her abilities due to her being pregnant. However, Karen’s determination prevailed. Today, she proudly stands as the President of Van Der Hout Jewelry, with those who once doubted now supplying.
