Founder of independent jewelry brand Syd & Pia NYC, Fernanda Medina found her passion for jewelry in college. While studying fashion illustration at Parsons, she took a tour of the jewelry department and became enamored with the process of creating 3D pieces with her hands. She immediately switched departments.

After college, Fernanda landed a corporate position in jewelry design. Her confidence rose when she noticed her sketches were never edited by higher-ups and always sold really well. Through it all, on days off, Fernanda found time to build with her hands, creating handcrafted jewelry pieces. Many of her friends wanted to buy the pieces she wore on any given day. Fernanda realized, between the success in her corporate position and the overwhelming feedback for her own pieces...this was her calling to launch Syd & Pia (named after her two daughters).

Syd & Pia is a quintessential metal-driven brand, embodying the chicness of downtown NYC and the rich antique aesthetic of exotic cultures. With 20+ years’ experience, Fernanda is the creative force behind the conceptual process, all the way to the finishing ends of production. Her vision is to accessorize the cosmopolitan woman of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds.

“I’m designing jewelry that offers bold statements effortlessly,” Fernanda shares. With her designs, she is always thinking of ways to redefine and modernize classic silhouettes. She believes this is what makes a Syd & Pia piece so unique and universally loved.
