Chandally

The more I connect to my history, the more my work reflects my vision.
— Sharón

At the heart of Chandally is a modern-day goldsmith rediscovering her roots.

When Sharón Chandally found metalsmithing in college in New York, she felt a deep connection to her heritage and was certain she had found her calling. Sharón’s grandfather, his siblings and generations before were silversmiths in their native Yemen but Sharón had not known she would join the tradition. When Sharón’s great uncles, both in their 80s, invited her to Israel to learn the ancient craft from them, Sharón didn’t hesitate to pack her bags and set off to reunite with her grandfather’s legacy. During what became a three year apprenticeship, her uncles told stories as they worked their magic. The distinctive filigree techniques they passed on to Sharón informed her own signature style.

Sharón is devoted to carrying tradition forward and innovating under the influence of generations. She is very inspired by the spiritual role that jewellery played historically in talismans, amulets and ceremonial pieces, and she is interested in exploring how that spiritual quality can be imbued into contemporary pieces. She likes to think her pieces remind people of where they come from and give them confidence in where they’re going. Playful, earthy, and elegant, a Chandally piece is a rare organic fusion of ancient wisdom and modern spirit.
