Joana Mota Capitão presents a Portuguese contemporary jewellery brand you won’t forget easily. Joana’s approach to design is based on merging organic elements with geometric references, crafting a refined new language which is both fluid and current. Joana’s unique creations reflect her travels, nature, painting, her childhood, and everything that surrounds her.

Inspiration is what keeps us moving and Joana’s stems from her two grandmothers - one, an antiquarian with a constant flow of old furniture, paintings and unique jewellery, and the other a major art enthusiast, always taking Joana to exhibitions. After graduating with a Production and Ambient Design degree from IADE, Joana enrolled in a jewellery course at Ar.Co. She then moved to Barcelona to intern at Marc Monzó and Estela Guitart’s studios, returning to Lisbon with a heart filled with hopeful thoughts. She had learned a lot but wanted more, so she went to work for the renowned Portuguese jeweller, Valentim Quaresma. There, she became confident in the path she wanted to fulfill and in May 2012, Joana Mota Capitão Jewellery was born. There is always a differentiating factor behind every piece - a story, really. In addition to her collections, Joana also offers a bespoke service to design her clients’ dream pieces.
