These Sterling Silver Shield Dangle Earrings by Made Sudiari are a wonderful piece inspired by the rich cultural heritage of the Dayak people of Borneo. The design features intricate openwork spiral motifs on a sterling silver shield shape, blending tradition with elegant artistry. The handcrafted finish gives each earring a unique and personal touch, making them a beautiful statement piece. They are a testament to the artisan’s quiet determination and her ability to create jewelry that honors her homeland’s traditions while providing for her family.
Born in Bali, Made Sudiari grew up in a community where jewelry-making was part of daily life. Though her parents were farmers, she and her siblings helped neighbors craft silver jewelry to pay for school. By sixth grade, she was already creating her own designs. Known for her quiet determination, she built her career while raising two children, often working late at night after caring for her family. Together with her husband, children, and a small team of artisans, she now creates jewelry using traditional tools and techniques. Sterling silver, gold, and gemstones form the foundation of her work, which reflects Bali’s deep artisanal heritage. For Made, jewelry-making is both livelihood and legacy, a way to ensure her children’s future while honoring the traditions of her homeland.
Handcrafted in Indonesia from 925 sterling silver with a combination finish, these hook earrings measure 1.9 inches long by 0.5 inches wide by 0.1 inches deep.
