These 'Great Bhoma' earrings by Independent Artisans are intricate dangle earrings that depict a cultural symbol known throughout all of Bali. Designed by Nyoman Ariawan, these sterling silver earrings feature the fierce face of Bhoma, a protector of temples from evil spirits. The combination finish highlights the detailed craftsmanship, making them a powerful and meaningful accessory. This piece beautifully blends traditional Balinese motifs with modern techniques.
Born in Klungkung, Bali, this jewelry designer’s path began with humble beginnings and a childhood marked by resilience. With limited resources, he first experimented by carving wooden beads into a bracelet, sparking a lifelong passion for adornment. Supported by his family’s sacrifices, he pursued technical studies in Denpasar and later apprenticed under a renowned Balinese jewelry designer, where he honed his craft for over two decades, mastering both silver and gold. His work blends traditional Balinese motifs with modern techniques, often incorporating silver, stainless steel, leather, and semi-precious stones into distinctive designs. Today, he leads a small workshop, guiding artisans with precision and care, while nurturing a vision to empower disadvantaged communities through craft. Each creation reflects his dedication to quality, artistry, and the belief that jewelry can be both beautiful and transformative, connecting heritage with contemporary design.
Handcrafted in 925 sterling silver, these hook earrings feature a combination finish and measure 2.4 inches in length by 0.7 inches in width.
