The Xuan Diamond

The Xuan Diamond is a 10.60 carat Fancy Vivid Blue diamond with Internally Flawless clarity. Discover why this rare Type IIb gemstone is considered one of nature’s greatest marvels.

Every so often, nature creates something that feels less like a mineral and more like a miracle. The Xuan Diamond is exactly that, a geological marvel born out of conditions so rare, so precise, they almost defy belief. It isn’t just beautiful. It’s the kind of gemstone that rewrites the very rules of what’s possible.

Even the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the world’s foremost authority on diamonds, recognizes its exceptional place in history. And when the experts who have examined nearly every legendary blue diamond declare that this one stands among the rarest, you know we’re dealing with something extraordinary.

So, what exactly makes the Xuan Diamond so special? Let’s break it down.

A Report Card of Perfection

On paper, the Xuan Diamond reads like a checklist of impossibility:

  • Carat weight: 10.60 carats, a commanding size.
  • Color grade: Fancy Vivid Blue, the highest and most coveted saturation possible.
  • Clarity: Internally Flawless, meaning no blemishes or inclusions disrupt its crystal heart.

Any one of these qualities alone would be remarkable. To see all three combined in a single stone places the Xuan in an elite category almost no other diamond can reach.

Just How Rare Is Rare?

The numbers speak for themselves. Of all the diamonds submitted to the GIA each year, only 2% display any fancy color at all. Within that slender group, blue is one of the scarcest hues. And within blue diamonds, only the tiniest fraction achieves the elusive Fancy Vivid grade.

Now add internal perfection to that equation. A diamond that is not only vividly blue but also flawless within is not chance. It is geological destiny. It is a trifecta of rarity.

A Diamond That Breaks the Rules

But the Xuan is not just rare. It is a scientific anomaly.

Here’s the rule: diamonds are exceptional electrical insulators. They simply do not conduct electricity. Except, this one does. The Xuan is a semiconductor, a diamond that carries an electrical current.

How? The answer lies in its chemistry. Classified as a Type IIb diamond, it carries trace amounts of boron in its atomic structure. That boron is responsible for two miracles at once: it creates the stone’s breathtaking blue color, and it gives the diamond its ability to conduct electricity. One element, two extraordinary effects.

From the Depths of History

While its exact origins are not officially documented, experts believe the Xuan was unearthed in the legendary Cullinan Mine in South Africa. This site has yielded some of the most important blue diamonds in history, giving the Xuan a pedigree that ties it to one of the most storied locations in the world of gems.

More Than a Diamond

When you hold the Xuan Diamond in your imagination, you are not just picturing a gemstone. You are glimpsing a scientific marvel, a geological lottery ticket, and a fragment of Earth’s deepest history. Its existence reminds us that even after centuries of exploration, nature still keeps secrets far beneath our feet.

And perhaps that is the most thrilling part. If a wonder like the Xuan can exist, what else might be waiting to be discovered?
