The True Love Test from the Netflix Movie “Life List”

Some movie moments don’t need a dramatic score or a sweeping monologue to land. They don’t hit hard - they hit quietly. And that’s exactly what happens in Life List, the kind of film that sneaks up on you. One scene. Four questions. No theatrics. Just the truth.

Some movie moments don’t need a dramatic score or a sweeping monologue to land. They don’t hit hard - they hit quietly. And that’s exactly what happens in Life List, the kind of film that sneaks up on you. One scene. Four questions. No theatrics. Just the truth.

It’s called The True Love Test.

It shows up softly, almost like a passing thought. But the moment it’s said, it lingers. Not because it’s clever. Because it’s uncomfortably honest. You hear it and immediately think, Oh. I know my answer. Or maybe, I’m afraid I do.

And that’s the point.

What Is the True Love Test?

In Life List, the test is made up of four simple questions. No games. No score to add up. Just a quiet invitation to stop romanticizing love and start recognizing it.

Here they are:

  1. Is he kind?
  2. Can I tell him everything in my heart?
  3. Does he help me become the best version of myself?
  4. Can I imagine him as the father of my children?

Each question seems obvious at first. You read them and think, Of course. But the deeper you sit with them, the more they reveal. Because they don’t ask if you love someone. They ask if you can build a life with them - and still love yourself inside that life.

1. Is He Kind?

Not charming. Not funny. Not impressive.
Kind.

It’s a word people gloss over when listing what they want in a partner, but when life gets real, it becomes everything. Kindness is how someone behaves when no one’s watching. It’s how they speak to the waiter, how they handle stress, how they treat you when you have nothing to offer.

Kindness doesn’t show up in fireworks. It shows up in small, consistent moments - the ones that build trust without trying.

If your partner isn’t kind, nothing else holds. And if they are, even the hard parts feel just a little easier.

2. Can I Tell Him Everything in My Heart?

This is the one that makes people pause. Because a lot of relationships look fine on the outside, but underneath, there’s a quiet editing going on. Things left unsaid. Parts of yourself tucked away.

This question doesn’t ask if your partner listens to you. It asks if you let yourself be fully known. Can you speak the truth, not just the polite version? Can you show the messy parts and still feel safe? Can you say the vulnerable thing and know they’ll hold it, not drop it?

When the answer is yes, you feel it in your chest. A kind of ease. A softening. When it’s no, you feel that too. The weight of words swallowed instead of shared.

3. Does He Help Me Become the Best Version of Myself?

Not push. Not fix.
Help.

This question is about alignment. Growth that feels natural. The kind of relationship where your strengths are encouraged, not competed with. Where you become more you over time, not less.

It’s not about perfection. It’s about expansion. Does he challenge you in healthy ways? Encourage your weirdness? Make space for your ambition without being threatened by it?

A partner who helps you grow doesn’t make you feel like you’re behind. They make you feel like you’re becoming.

4. Can I Imagine Him as the Father of My Children?

Even if kids aren’t in the picture. Even if they never will be. This question still matters.

Because what it really asks is: Do I trust this person’s character? Could I imagine them showing up, patiently, consistently, tenderly? Could I see them passing on values that I believe in?

And if children are part of your future - this is the question that changes everything. Because no matter how magnetic someone is, if you can't picture raising a human being with them, something fundamental is missing.

This isn't about timelines or ticking boxes. It’s about seeing someone not just in your now, but in your next.

Why This Scene Works

Life List doesn’t dress the test up. It just lets the questions land. And that’s what makes the moment feel so intimate. Because it trusts the audience to sit with it.

It doesn’t ask Do you love him? That question is easy to answer. Romantic love can be wild, consuming, addictive. It doesn’t always mean it’s right.

These questions are quieter. But they’re also harder to fake.

What If You Don’t Know the Answers?

That’s the part no one tells you: you don’t have to know. Not right away. Maybe you’re still learning each other. Maybe you’re just starting to ask better questions. Maybe the answers are shifting under your feet.

What matters is that you do ask them. That you stop looking for a checklist and start listening to your gut.

Because the True Love Test isn’t about getting a perfect score. It’s about clarity. It’s about whether love feels like home - or a house you’re constantly trying to fix from the inside.

The Love That Lasts

The kind of love that passes this test doesn’t always look flashy. It’s not made of grand gestures and constant spark. It’s made of gentleness. Openness. Partnership. It’s someone reaching for your hand not just in the storm, but in the quiet.

It’s someone who is kind when no one’s keeping score. Who makes space for your voice. Who reflects you back to yourself, brighter. Who you can trust with your future, whether or not that future includes children.

You hear those four questions, and your heart already knows.
And that knowing?
That’s the real test.
